Additionally, the WSIS Forum 2026 acts as a vital global platform for international digital cooperation. Indeed, the Egyptian leadership actively works to empower developing countries within the Global South. Consequently, these nations will become creators of technology rather than mere technological consumers. To achieve this, Egypt implements crucial policies to close the digital divide across the African continent.
Egypt’s Three Core Priorities for WSIS Forum 2026 and Digital Inclusion
First, the Egyptian presidency defined its global agenda around three foundational pillars. Specifically, the first pillar prioritizes bridging digital divides and expanding internet connectivity. However, this process requires mobilizing sustainable financing to construct robust digital infrastructure. Consequently, the global community can guarantee fair and transparent digital access for remote areas.
In addition, the second pillar focuses on building authentic local digital capacity. Therefore, developing nations possess the absolute right to build, govern, and benefit from technology. For instance, this step requires smart investments in digital skills, AI, and localized content. Meanwhile, the third pillar centers on strengthening trust within the digital sphere. Mainly, it addresses responsible AI, cybersecurity, and child online safety.
Strategic Milestones of “Digital Egypt” and the Decent Life Initiative
Next, the Minister reviewed major domestic milestones achieved under the “Digital Egypt” strategy. For example, the Ministry of Communications recently executed massive financial investments to upgrade the national network. Specifically, these efforts successfully deployed high-speed 5G services and fiber optic connectivity. As a result, the new network covers thousands of rural villages under the “Decent Life” initiative.
Because of these extensive investments, Egypt secured the fastest fixed internet speed in Africa. Simultaneously, government e-services continue to experience a rapid and qualitative leap. Indeed, the “Digital Egypt” platform serves more than 12 million Egyptian citizens today. Specifically, the portal offers around 220 digital services. Consequently, this elevation placed Egypt in Tier A on the World Bank’s GovTech Maturity Index.
A Revolution in Tech Training, Offshoring Jobs, and Artificial Intelligence
Notably, the country achieved spectacular results in human resource development and employment creation. In particular, the Ministry of Communications multiplied annual training programs over the past eight years. Specifically, annual trainees skyrocketed from just 4,000 to nearly 800,000. As a consequence, the extraordinary results of this educational boom include the following key points:
- First, Egypt established itself as a premier regional hub for global IT services.
- Second, the country currently hosts nearly 300 offshoring centers exporting digital services.
- Additionally, these tech centers operate across multiple Egyptian cities to guarantee inclusive employment.
- Furthermore, Egypt successfully launched its National AI Strategy and invested in Arabic language technologies.
- Consequently, the nation rose rapidly in the Government AI Readiness Index.
Ultimately, the Minister concluded that these domestic achievements align perfectly with the WSIS Forum 2026 priorities. Therefore, Egypt demonstrates to the world that the Global South can actively build the digital future.
